Nazareth

On the way to Galilee we stopped in Nazareth to visit a few sites. The Church of the Annunciation was the first one. Traditionally this is where Gabriel announced to Mary that she would have a son that would one day save the world. It is commemorated with a church built over her house.  It is the largest Christian church in the Middle East.

The entrance

The opening to the home is behind a pulpit and small worship area

We had the opportunity to listen to part of a mass taking place. The mosaic in the background was amazing.

Countries from all over the world donated art work of the annunciation or Mary with Christ. It was so fun to see how all the different cultures depicted the event. There were some truly beautiful pieces of art there.

And then there's America

Just down a little walkway was the Church of St. Joseph. This was where Joseph's workshop was. It was pretty small but I loved the statue of Joseph and Jesus that was in the entrance.

Our final stop in Nazareth was the synagogue. It was powerful to sit in a synagogue in Nazareth knowing that this was likely the spot that Jesus announced His Messiahship. We got to sing a few hymns because we had the church to ourselves. I love singing hymns!

On our way out of town we drove by Mary's Well. I snagged a picture as we drove past. It may not seem cool but look what picture was modeled after it!

Until my next adventure,
Lindy
